What Personal Data we collect and why we collect it

Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Orders
If you order from our webshop, we collect the transactional data needed to ship your order to you (full name and address as well as payment method and payment information) and your email address to get in touch if any questions arise. We save this data indefinitely for future reference, i.e. to be of service when you have questions regarding your order in the future.

You have the option to subscribe to our newsletter during checkout in our shop. Again, we only collect what’s necessary to send the newsletter to you (email address) and personalize it (your name – optional).

Newsletter Opt-In
Through the Newsletter Subscription Fields on our website, in the pop-up and during checkout in our shop, we collect the data needed to send newsletters to you (email address) and personalize it (your name – optional). We use Mailchimp, a newsletter service tool provided by The Rocket Science Group LLC. Learn more about Mailchimp’s use of data here: mailchimp.com/legal/

Contact Forms
All contact forms on this site collect only collect data needed to interact with you to i.e. answer any questions you might have regarding the shop, your order or our other services. Contact forms collect your name and email address and the content of your message to us. We save this data indefinitely for future reference to make future conversations with our customers and readers easier.

Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded Content from other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics
This website uses Google Analytics, a service for web analysis by Google Inc. (“Google”). The use of this service is based on Art. 6 Abs. 1 S. 1 lit. f. DSGVO. Google Analytics uses cookies, text files saved on your computer, ensuring an analysis of your use of our website. The information provided through these cookies are:

  • Browser Type & Version
  • Operation System
  • Referring URL
  • IP Address
  • Local Time

These informations normally are transferred to a Google server in the US and saved there. Your IP address will not be linked to the other data collected by Google. We extend Google Analytics with the code “anonymizeIP” for the use on this website, so your IP is masked and all data is collected anonymously. Only in rare exceptions, your full IP is transferred to a Google Server in the US and then shortened there.

You can prevent this website from using cookies through configuring your browser. Another option would be to download and install the following plugin to prevent the use of your information through Google: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Who we share your data with

If you choose to pay your order through Paypal, we share your order information, address, name and payment information with Paypal. Click here to review Paypal’s Privacy Policy: www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/privacy-full

We also share information with Google Analytics (see ANALYTICS above) and Mailchimp (see NEWSLETTER OPT-IN above).

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

The rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
